SHRAVAN YATRA-2003 (A
Traditional Veg Food Festival)
Shravan is Back and So the Yatra goes
on.....
As we all are aware that Shravan month (A month of festivals) is a sacred
month for a larger section of Indians. It is a month full of festivals worshiping various
Gods and Goddesses etc.. Some of the most popular festivals are Nag Panchami (snake
worship), Nariyal Poornima, Raksha Bhandan, Gokul Astami.......and many more.
It is this month, where many Indians change their diet i.e. temporarily give up non-
vegetarian food and eat only pure vegetarian food. As the proprietor of Goa Portuguesa and
Culture Curry Dr. Suhas Awchat M.D. and Executive Chef & CEO Deepa Awchat are
exploding the myths, that South Indian food is only idli- dosa, sambhar and Goan food is
only seafood and non-vegetarian, but there is a lot to add to it. In Shravan Yatra - 2002,
they exposed their 300++ vegetarian dishes from their renowned twin restaurants Goa
Portuguesa and Culture Curry.
A special survey was conducted during this Shravan Yatra and it was learnt
that more than 1 lakh vegetarians visited the extended food festival, which made the
Awchats call for another successful Shravan Yatra.
Looking at the tremendous success of Shravan Yatra 2002, the Executive Chef Deepa Awchat
has researched on new traditional delicacies from the secret kitchens of Southern states
of India, to make all patrons enjoy the season of Shravan at Culture Curry. Shravan Yatra
2003 is totally a different experience for all patron as the research team headed by
Executive Chef Deepa has designed a special menu to tickle the taste buds of
non-vegetarian turned pure vegetarians.
As Goa Portuguesa and Culture Curry is well known for its quality and service because of
its separate kitchens/crockery maintained for veg and non-veg cuisine's as Dr. Suhas
Awchat (Proprietor) comes from a strictly pure vegetarian family who dine everyday in the
restobar which is connected to his house located just above the restaurant. Another reason
for introducing Shravan Yatra 2003 is because of tremendous demand & response by our
patrons who visited Shravan Yatra 2002.
Shravan Yatra 2003 will begin from 1st August till 30th Sept 2003. The guests visited were
the Whos Who of Mumbai for the grand opening ceremony which was held at Culture
Curry Restobar on 31st July, 2003.
As always the part of profits of the restaurants donated to Muktangan School
for Mentally Challenged.
CHETINAD FOOD FESTIVAL
authentic cuisine of Tamilnadu
What distinguishes the Chetinad cuisine from other South Indian cuisine's, is a masala
called Khada Masala (whole spices like cinnamon, clove, pepper) which is spicy but not
pungent. You'll never find this masala in a powdered form anywhere. Except in here.
Deepa has taken special care to modify and standardize the menu to suit the Mumbaite's
taste.
KERALA FOOD FESTIVAL
In Kerala, food is usually cooked in coconut oil. But we merely temper the food with
coconut oil. So it appeals to your taste as well as retains its authenticity. Vegetarian
Kerala cuisine is mostly dominated with bananas and root vegetables like yam, tapioca and
beet-root.
ANDHRA FOOD FESTIVAL
Andhra cuisine is the spiciest of all. But our chefs have customized the recipes to offer
you a fine balance of spicy and mild taste. Interestingly, this is different from
Hyderabadi cuisine (food of the Nizams) which is usually cooked in white gravy with
cashewnuts, malai (cream), peanuts and butter.
Manglorian Food Festival
Mangalorian cuisine is dominated by seafood. The souring agent used, is tamarind as
against Kodembali in Kerala cooking.
For the rare kinds .....
And in case you find the menu too authentic, let us assure you, we also have recipes
you'll instantly recognize, Butter Chicken, Veg Kadai, Palak Paneer, for instance.
